Best Netflix Originals

If you’re a big TV show fan, you know that the best streaming service is Netflix. And that’s not a stretch. Netflix has a huge library of series, including Rick and Morty, Community, The Mitchells Vs. The Machines, and The Staircase. So what are some of the best Netflix shows? We’ve compiled some of the best choices, including a few favorites of our own.

Rick and Morty

In “Rick and Morty on Netflix”, the titular duo – Morty and Jerry – struggle through school while pursuing adventures that keep their grandpa happy. The series is based on the short story of Rick Sanchez, a cynical mad scientist, and his teenage grandson Morty Smith, who are also a science fiction fanatic and a pair of overachieving siblings. A staff writer for the show says that the episodes are fast-paced and feature a dozen sci-fi concepts. Yet, while this seems like an impossible task, the show manages to maintain a consistent narrative arc for the two main characters.

Community

The network is bringing the entire six-season run of community to its subscribers. The streaming service grabbed the global streaming rights to the show last October after Sony Pictures TV dropped the show. Sony originally broadcast Community on NBC, but the show was pulled from the network after its final season, which aired on Yahoo! Screen. Netflix has a longstanding relationship with Marvel Studios, which is the company behind the Avengers film franchise. The show’s success has prompted Netflix to grab the rights to all six seasons.

The Mitchells Vs. The Machines

The world’s electronic devices are coming to life and interrupting the Mitchell family’s road trip to film school. Friendly robots join the family’s quest to save the family and planet from a new technological revolution. It’s a thrilling adventure that will keep you glued to the screen for an entire season. This Netflix Original series is rated PG for mature themes and contains some violent scenes.

The Staircase

The award-winning 2005 French documentary “The Staircase” will land on Netflix Friday with three new episodes. It originally aired on Sundance TV and BBC in England, but has now made its way to the streaming service. The show has the potential to reach millions of new viewers. Despite its dark subject matter, “The Staircase” still manages to feel warm and empathetic. If you’re looking for a good film to watch this weekend, “The Staircase” will certainly satisfy.

Okja

In the upcoming Netflix original film, “Okja,” Mija has been the caretaker of the polar bear, Okja, for the past 10 years. The bear, which is found in South Korea, is rescued by Mija when it is being transported to New York by a family-owned conglomerate called Mirando Corporation. But the image-obsessed CEO of the corporation has plans for the bear, and a rescue mission is needed to bring it back.

The Good Place

The good place on Netflix is a critically acclaimed comedy series. NBC produced the series and marketed it as a Netflix Original worldwide. It was created by Michael Schur, an American comedy goldmine who previously worked on The Office (US) and starred as Dwight Schrute’s cousin Mose. Schur also produced and co-created the critically acclaimed comedy series Master of None and produced the Parks and Recreation TV show. He began his career writing for Saturday Night Live and has since written the Black Mirror episode ‘Nosedive’.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things is one of the most popular original series on Netflix. It combines the elements of science fiction and horror with a childlike sensibility set in 1980s Hawkins, Indiana. Created by The Duffer Brothers and executive produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen, the show takes its inspiration from the pop culture trends of the 80s and Cold War conspiracy theories. You’ll find that you’ll be hooked from the very first episode.
