DualShock
The DualShock controller is one of the most popular game controllers from Sony. It is used to play many games, including PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. If you are a gamer and have a DualShock, you may want to try connecting it to your PC. You can do so by purchasing an official DualShock Bluetooth dongle or by using Steam. But, while both options can make it easier to use your controller on your PC, it requires more work.
There are two versions of the DualShock: the original and the newer DualShock 2. Each controller has two analog sticks, a touchpad, a PS button, and two shoulder buttons. In addition, each has triggers that can be used to perform a variety of functions. These include a “share” button, which can be pressed to share your progress on a game with other players.
The DualShock’s analog sticks are textured and rubberized. This allows them to have varying levels of vibration. Both the original DualShock and the newer DualShock have a battery that can last for about eight hours. A second battery is available for purchase. Some of the newer models are compatible with Bluetooth and other wireless connections.
Compared to the DualShock 2, the DualShock 4 has a much slimmer and sleeker design. It also features a built-in light bar and speaker. Although it does not support Sixaxis functionality, it still can be connected to the PS4 Remote Play feature. Unlike the original DualShock, it is not compatible with PCs. However, the new controller is compatible with Steam, so you can use it to play Steam games with your controller.
Originally, the DualShock was designed as a wireless gamepad. However, it later added the option to use it with a wired USB connection. With the new version of the pad, you can also use it with Bluetooth. While this option may sound convenient, it does eliminate the charging pad.
Another important feature of the DualShock is the built-in vibration. It is similar to the Rumble Pak in the Nintendo 64. Instead of using a single motor, it uses two motors. When the rumble is active, the DualShock 3 draws up to 300 mA of current from a 3.7 V battery. Depending on the game you’re playing, you’ll be able to get up to 30 hours of gaming time on a single charge.
There is also a version that supports vibrotactile haptic feedback. During a game, pressing the right thumbstick causes the pad to move in the direction of the player’s movement. Using this feature, the user can simulate drawing an arrow. The device has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
In addition, the DualShock 3 has a USB mini-B connector on the top. Its battery can be recharged by using the USB cable or by using a third-party replacement battery. Even though the DualShock is heavier than the Sixaxis, it weighs only 192 grams. Because of this, it is the lighter of the two options.
Those who want a controller with a bit more weight and style might prefer the Nacon Asymmetric Wireless Controller. This controller is more robust, has offset analog sticks, and provides an Xbox One controller experience on a PS4.
